The people behind your progress

Meet your personalized clinical care team

At NorthStar, you're not handed off to a single provider and left to figure the rest out on your own. You're supported by a dedicated team of 9: a physician, advanced practice clinician, psychiatric nurse practitioner, two nurses, a licensed therapist, two peer guides, and a care navigator. They all work together, all communicating, all focused on you for a full year.

The NorthStar care team
Why a team matters

You need more than a prescriber

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, nobody expects one doctor to handle everything. There's an oncologist, a surgeon, a nutritionist, a therapist; all coordinating. When someone manages diabetes, they've got an endocrinologist, a dietitian, and a care coordinator working together. That's how modern medicine handles chronic conditions: with teams, not solo practitioners.

Alcohol and Substance Use Disorder affect your brain, your body, your emotions, your relationships, your sleep, your mental health, often all at the same time.

That's a lot for one person to manage. It's too much for one clinician to cover. And yet for decades, that's exactly how addiction treatment has worked; a counselor here, a prescriber there, and very little communication between them. When something falls through the cracks, the patient pays for it.

NorthStar was built differently. Every patient gets a dedicated, nine-person clinical team that works as a unit; communicating constantly, adjusting your care in real time, and making sure nothing gets missed. This isn't a directory of providers who happen to work at the same company. It's a coordinated team built around you.

Meet your dedicated team

The people caring for you through care

A NorthStar supervising physician

Supervising Physician (MD)

This is the person who sees the full picture, an addiction medicine physician who oversees your entire treatment plan, reviews clinical decisions, and steps in on complex medical questions. They're always reviewing your case and always available when the team needs escalation, while other team members handle the day-to-day so you're never stuck waiting on a packed doctor's calendar.

A NorthStar adv. practice clinician

Adv. Practice Clinician (APC)

This clinician manages your medications, adjusts doses based on how you're responding, coordinates your tapering plan, and addresses medical concerns as they come up. In the early weeks, when things are changing fast, your APC is one of the people making sure your treatment keeps pace with how you're actually feeling; not how a protocol assumes you should be feeling.

A NorthStar psych. nurse practitioner

Psych. Nurse Practitioner (NP)

At least 40-50% of patients who come to NorthStar are also dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, or another mental health condition that needs attention at the same time. Your psychiatric NP is trained specifically to identify and treat these conditions alongside your substance use; not as a separate track, but as part of the same care plan.

A NorthStar registered nurses

1-2 Registered Nurses (RNs)

You'll have one to two nurses depending on your care intensity and tapering needs. Your nurses are the people who keep you safe and informed, especially during tapering, medication changes, and the first weeks when your body is adjusting to a lot at once. They monitor your vitals through the devices in your treatment kit, track your symptoms using clinical scales, educate you on what to expect, and serve as the bridge between you and the rest of the provider team.

A NorthStar licensed therapist

Licensed Therapist

NorthStar builds therapy into your team, not as an optional add-on but as a core part of your care. Your therapist helps you process what's underneath, build coping strategies that actually work, develop emotional regulation skills, and work through the patterns that drove use in the first place. Healing the brain chemistry and healing the emotional wounds happen best when they happen at the same time.

A NorthStar peer guides

2 Peer Guides

These are the people on your team who've been where you are, not because they read about it, but because they lived it. They know what the first week feels like. They know what cravings feel like at 2am. They know what it's like to wonder whether any of this is actually going to work. NorthStar matches peer guides to patients based on real life experience. That matching is what makes the support feel genuine, because it is.

A NorthStar care navigator

Care Navigator

Treatment involves a lot of moving pieces, appointments, insurance, scheduling, follow-ups, questions about how things work. Your navigator handles all of it so you can focus on getting well. Think of them as the person who keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, making sure nothing becomes a barrier between you and your progress.

Why the team itself is part of the medicine

I spent two decades in intensive care units, and the lesson that stayed with me is simple: outcomes rarely turn on one brilliant decision. They turn on whether a coordinated team is paying attention, together, over time. The same is true for alcohol and substance use disorder. It is a chronic condition, and chronic conditions are won or lost in the follow-through.

When care is fragmented, a prescriber in one place, a therapist in another, a lab result no one acts on, things slip through the cracks at the moments that matter most. The research on chronic disease is consistent: the patients who do best are the ones who stay connected to a steady, communicating team. At NorthStar, your nine-person team works from one shared plan and one record, so a shift in your sleep, your labs, or your mood is seen and answered quickly, not weeks later.

"A coordinated team isn't a nicety. For a chronic condition, it is part of the active ingredient."

That is what we build for every patient: not a string of disconnected appointments, but one team that knows your history, anticipates what comes next, and adjusts your plan as you change. It is also why our patients stay with us, and staying connected is what makes the rest of the science work.

Coordinated, not fragmented

How your team actually works together

Here's what makes this different from most programs: your team talks to each other. Constantly. If your nurse notices a change in your vitals, your psychiatric NP and APC know about it that day. If your peer guide picks up on something, you've been quieter in groups, you mentioned a tough week, your therapist is looped in. If a medication needs adjusting, your physician reviews the call.

In a typical treatment program, the Monday counselor doesn't talk to the Thursday counselor, who doesn't talk to the person running your support group. Information gets buried in charts. Things get missed. And you're left trying to be your own care coordinator while your brain is still healing.

At NorthStar, you don't manage the system. The system is managed for you. Your one job is to show up, engage, and heal. Nine people handle the rest.

Care that grows with you

Your team adapts as you evolve

Your care plan is personalized from day one, based on your genetics, your history, your mental health, your goals, and your life. But it doesn't stay frozen. Early on, you might need intensive medical support and daily peer contact. By month three, the focus might shift toward therapy and skill-building. By month six, the touchpoints spread out and your independence grows.

The team doesn't vanish as things get better. They step back gradually, always watching, always available, always ready to lean back in if something shifts. That's what good long-term care looks like: not holding on too tight, but never letting go too soon.

85.7% patient success rate. 82.1% still in treatment at six months. An NPS score of 88.2, among the highest in healthcare anywhere. Provider satisfaction scores at or above 90% across every single role on the team.

Those numbers don't happen because of any one person. They happen because nine people, each with a clear role and a shared commitment to your progress, are working together, every week, for an entire year, on your behalf.

You don't have to carry this alone. At NorthStar, you genuinely don't.
